2 Reasons to Make Your Own Custom Hand Sanitizer
Keeping the home clean and free of germs is something we all want.
We keep yelling at our children not to touch shoes, dirt, or other stuff which may be inflicted by bacteria and germ.
I do that every day with my 1-year-old infant and 5 years old.
Every time I see either of my kids is picking up stuff from the ground, I know they may catch infection at any time.
At times I used to clean their hands with baby wipes knowing fully well that these can’t kill germs.
Well, by now, you must have understood my analogy. Yes, my friend, you got it right!
Isn’t it wonderful to have a natural DIY hand sanitizer that’s effective at killing germs?
Now comes the million dollar question: why should I make one for myself when I can walk into a nearby dollar store and buy one?
In such a situation, its advisable to take steps to stay safe and using a natural hand sanitizer is one of them.
Reason 1 – Level of Toxicity is Unknown
The first and the most important reason is that you don’t know the level of toxicity in these store-bought hand sanitizers.
Health practitioners always recommend avoiding cheap antibacterial stuff as it is notorious for penetrating the protective layer of our skin and cause internal damage. The condition is known as stratus corneum.
The outer skin layer protects our body from being exposed to the deadly bacteria. Now imagine, the product you are buying to kill the germs is making your body even more vulnerable to the invisible toxins.
Reason 2 – Chemical content in Store brought Hand Sanitizers
The next reason to stay away from commercial hand sanitizers as they have parabens.
Now, tell me, do you want your kids to rub chemical products daily on their skin? I bet you won’t.
Parabens are the root cause of all problems in our body. They are directly linked to endocrine disruption, cancer, and they even mimic the symptoms of estrogen!
Knowing all these deadly toxins in body, I am sure you would not want to incorporate this into your daily routine.
Small kids have the habit of drinking stuff that they should not! The moment you move your eyes away from them, they may end up drinking something incredibly harmful to their health.
I have learned it in a hard way.
On a Sunday morning, when I was looking at every corner of my house to find my youngest one, guess what, I finally found him holding the store-bought sanitizer.
The incident still gives me chills when I think about it.
Due to high alcohol concentration in the store-bought hand sanitizers, it may only take a few squirts for your child to display symptoms of drunkenness.
If accidentally they consume more, it may poison their body.
Alcohol poisoning symptoms include vomiting, confusion, inability in waking up, seizures, and irregular or slow breathing, as stated by the National Institute of Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism.
Though alcohol is an active ingredient in an effective hand sanitizer, if you wish to add it, make sure you store it safely and far from the reach of your little ones.
The little one should use the hand sanitizer only under your supervision.
Make sure that you monitor its use and place it on a high up shelf where they cannot reach for it themselves.
You think it’s scary.
No, these are simple awareness pointers which we all need to know.
Now let’s get to work and see how a DIY hand sanitizer is effective in keeping you safe by killing germs and bacteria to keep you and your kids safe.
